A Psychedelic Dance
By: Sarah Perlitz
A flash of lights dance across lips, thunderous bass persuades moving hips
Square paper sheets dropping harder than beats,
underneath my tongue they slip, and hand in hand our pinkies dip.
Bitter chemicals burn into gums and veins, a roaring fire of energy within us reigns.
The music flows through us like a wild river, and when it reaches my heart I shiver.
An ocean of energy pours out from within, it is time for our dance to begin.
Dancing patterns breathe across walls, glowing shades of neon, big and small.
Shadows show dimensions of appearances, growing outwards and inwards, a wealth of experiences.
Vibrating energy in a simple touch, reaching out to those who love so much.
Shark eyed frenzy of the mixers, a strange girl grasps at me to fix her.
The look of love lingers across glassy eyes, such honest expressions do not lie.
You reach for my hand and our fingers intertwine, cradled together we are divine.
The stars dance with us, and the flowers sway, imprints left behind to stay.
Our bodies move together as though they are one, we dance until the music is done.
Impressionable lips pressed against mine, embraces that strengthen and stop time.
We hesitantly retire to our abode, safe in the night, our feelings explode.
The music does not stop with the drums, but within our depths, sacred hearts hum.
Rhythms move across the sky, and seeking sleep, they distract however we try.
Three cats comfort and join the connection; we dig deeper and deeper into self-reflection.
Silken and soft, stroke by stroke, pipe after pipe, the ease of the toke.
Surviving smoke billowing upwards in waves and whirls, leaving a strong stench wrapped up in my curls.
Puzzle pieced together we fit, skin brushing skin, igniting, we are lit.
Nuzzling and squeezing, how close we can be. The wheezing cat purrs loudly to heightened energy.
We laugh, and bask in the heat, bringing us to peace and sleep.
When fur and flesh melt into breaths,
and the internal bell tolls at every hour, surrounded by the warmth of caress,
slowly rising rays come to empower.
Stretching claws kneed the fabric, enticing us to stay,
it is a tough temptation to overcome, when curled toes unfurl one by one.
Especially when after hitting the snooze on devices close by, it is here that my cat Lorenzo should lie.
His fluff muffles its blasting tones, causing me to arise well past noon.
Comforting moments do cause some delay, but the life in the journey and trip compel us forward each
day.
